Sludge refers to the fuel residue inside the engine. Also called carbon mud, it remains in the engine oil and is filtered by the oil filter. However, if the oil or oil filter is not replaced, sludge will accumulate, and the oil will become dirty and deteriorate. If the oil is black, it is probably caused by sludge, so it is necessary to change the oil.

First of all, is this sludge normal? It must be abnormal. There are also many people who explain that this kind of greasy is normal, and every engine will have it. This statement is wrong. The oil is pumped to various parts of the engine by the oil pump through the filter screen, and then returns to the oil filter element from top to bottom. After the impurities are filtered, it flows to the oil pan. This kind of sludge can be said to be several times the viscosity of the oil, and basically does not have the performance of a fluid, and will be firmly adsorbed on the surface of the oil pump filter screen. The filter cannot effectively suck in enough oil, which will affect the circulation performance of the oil, cause the oil to accelerate and deteriorate, and there will be more and more sludge. The engine oil has a cooling effect in the engine, and the lack of flow leads to the local high temperature of the engine oil which is the root cause of the sludge.
The oil filter element will leave residue in the filter element during the oil circulation process. If the oil circulates normally, the sludge should be in the oil filter element instead of being adsorbed on the surface of the oil pump filter screen. Then the oil is changed every time, why is this still the case? It is possible to use low-viscosity oil for turbocharged engines, but for ordinary engines and the correct type of oil is replaced, the sludge is not caused by oil problems. Of course, fake engine oil is another matter.
